Roderick Strong vs. Drew McIntyre

Crowd relatively reserved for this match. McIntyre with the sizable size advantage. Strong hurdles a whip attack and delivers a leg lariat. Went to the well again too early as McIntyre stops it in it’s tracks the second time and McIntyre with an impressive suplex. Roddy back on the offensive, sending Drew outside, where they both go strike for strike. Roddy charges in, but Drew pops him up into the steel post. Referee with the slowest ten count of all time as they’re both still outside. Roddy back in, enziguri on the apron, then drops McIntyre back first onto the “hardest part of the ring.” Strong rolls back in as we go to break.

We’re back and the back and forth is still going. Strong with the minor upper hand with a slightly disheveled abdominal stretch. McIntyre works his way up, but then Roddy throws several haymakers. McIntyre now down in the corner as Roddy looks to finish the job. Several more kicks and stomps from the messiah of the…back breaker. Drew selling his behind off for Strong as he gets locked into another upper body submission. Drew fights out again and a huge clothesline creates space. Kick to the midsection then head from Strong, runs the ropes, but promptly gets thrown by a belly-to-belly by McIntyre. We’ve reached the battle of wills in the middle of the ring portion of the match, which McIntyre gets the best of. McIntyre heads up top for an ax handle. Reverse Alabama Slam by McIntyre, which looked amazing, leads to a pin and a long two. Drew strikes up the band for the Claymoore, but Strong ready with a jumping knee counter. The back breaker specialist finally lands one to even the odds. Another knee strike from Strong, then heads up top, but a huge head butt sends Strong crumbling. Both men caught up in the ropes, Drew caught up in the Tree of Woe. None other than the NXT Champion Bobby Roode runs down the ramp to take out both men, and does so quite giddily.

Result: No Contest–Interference

Roode gloats as McIntyre tries to will himself up. Roode hits the Glorious DDT and leaves his challenger laying. He blows a kiss to Strong for good measure as the crowd chants “you suck” at the glorious one. We get one good GLORIOUS from Roode as he stands tall to end the episode. Side note; security was slightly slow in protecting the main event.

We are back and William Regal is in the ring.  He brings out the two men who will be wrestling for the NXT Title at Takeover: Brooklyn. Out first is Drew McIntyre.  Out next is the champion Bobby Roode.  Roode is flanked by Full Sail security.

Bobby says these gentlemen are his personal security detail.  They are here to protect everyone from a madman named Roderick Strong who is trying to get his hands on him.  Roode says he would hate for Strong to ruin that big money match at Takeover. Roode says they are here to protect him more than Drew.  Roode officially welcomes Drew back to the WWE.  You came out and talked about the past and the mistakes you made. You talked about feeling entitled and how Roode feels the same way now.

Roode tells Drew you’re damn right he is entitled.  Bobby says he doesn’t need a second chance.  From the moment he walked into this company, he said he was going to make a change and be the face of this brand.  Roode said that he would become the NXT Champion. Roode reminds Drew that he has done everything he said he would do.  Whether you like it or not, this is his NXT.  It is not yours, it is not theirs, it is not WE. It is his NXT.

You talked about how you were christened the Chosen One. Roode says he did not need to be chosen. Everybody knows that Bobby Roode is simply The One.

Drew says he has to give Roode some credit.  You are the prototype of a champion.  You have had one of the best years of any NXT Champion. There is one big problem with Bobby Roode and his title reign.  Drew says that Roode is an ass.  He thought Roode was a facade but Bobby believes all the crap coming out of his mouth.  The higher Roode gets, the harder he will fall when Drew gives him a Claymore.  At the end of the Glorious Entrance, you will be standing across from the new NXT Champion.

Roderick Strong comes out and he wants to say something.  He says he knows what William Regal said.  You can fine him if you want. Roderick says he is not done with Bobby Roode.  You talk about the NXT Title.  This is not about the NXT Title.  This is about you disrespecting his fiance and his family.  This is about you disrespecting him as a man.  Roderick says he is calling out Bobby.  This is not about the title or Brooklyn.  Roode says this is about a fight.  He says he wants to fight Bobby.  Roderick asks if he is man enough.

Roode tells Strong to shut up.  If you want a fight, he is not afraid of Strong.  Roode says he will put his title on the line.  If you want a fight, you got a fight.  All you have to do is go through Drew McIntyre first.  If you beat Drew next week, he will see him after Takeover.

Regal says he is the one who makes the matches.

Drew says to make the match.  He knows the games that Bobby is trying to play.  Drew says he will fight anybody, anywhere, any time.  You will not have the title after Brooklyn.  He will fight Roderick next week and then four days later, he will beat Bobby Roode.

Bobby says everyone is so enthralled with “We Are NXT”  Drew and Roderick want the match.  Bobby says the people want the match.  We are NXT so make the the match Mr. Regal.

Regal says he is all about giving the NXT Universe what they want so next week, Drew McIntyre faces Roderick Strong and if Strong wins, he faces Roode after Takeover.

Bobby says it will be GLORIOUS.

We go to commercial.

We take a look at what happened earlier today when Bobby Roode was having a photo shoot done for him. Roderick Strong enters with his fiance and son. Bobby says that if she is going to pop them out any faster they will need to get a double. Bobby tells Marina if she wants a real man to call him.

Strong attacks Roode and they have to be separated. Roode tells Strong if he wants a shot at the title, any time, anywhere.

We are told that in two weeks, Strong will get a title match against Bobby Roode.

We go to earlier today, hearing from Bobby Roode who promises a GLORIOUS championship celebration tonight…but you’re not invited. This party is exclusive, but don’t worry, this is still my NXT…and next week, your champion returns.

We go to earlier today, as Bobby Roode walks to Full Sail and his baggage caddy is yelled at for walking too slowly. He tells the man to hurry up as we go to the NXT intro.

Back from break, commentary hypes the NXT Championship match at Takeover as Bobby Roode defends against Hideo Itami. Suddenly…

Roode and Itami face off before TakeOver: Chicago

“GLORIOUS, NO I WON’T GIVE IN, I WON’T GIVE IN TILL I’M VICTORIOUS, AND I WILL DEFEND, I WILL DEFEND”

The NXT Champion makes his way to the ring, clearly with a mission in mind. He gets a microphone, Bobby says everywhere he goes people are talking about Hideo Itami. Bobby says Hideo has knocked a couple of people out and may have broken a jaw or two along the way. A few weeks ago, Hideo Itami knocked him out with a GTS in the middle of the ring. Roode says he can admit it. Bobby says he was minding his own business in a $5,000 custom made suit, like the one he is wearing tonight. Itami was completely unprovoked when he did that.

Bobby says that will never ever ever happen again. The difference between what happened on that night and what will happen at NXT Takeover Chicago. Bobby says he will not be in the middle of the ring in his $5,000 suit. He will be in his boots and gear and he will beat and embarrass him. He will make Hideo and example. Bobby brings up Hideo’s career in NXT. He keeps getting hurt. Bobby says he didn’t even know that Hideo was employed.

Bobby asks to think about his track record and how he has taken the NXT brand to heights it has never seen before. Hideo will have to go home to his wife and kids and tell them that he failed again. This time, you failed because of the NXT Champion Bobby Roode.

Hideo Itami’s music plays and he makes his way to the stage and the ring.

William Regal tries to stop him and security comes to the ramp and hold their arms out to tell Itami not to do anything to Roode.

Itami goes through security like a bad defensive line and he takes Roode down with a double leg take down. Itami attacks security and gives one of them a GTS. Itami gives a second member of security a GTS. Itami stares down the third member of security and Roode attacks Itami from behind but Itami with a GTS for Roode. Hideo stands tall over the NXT Champion as the show comes to a close.

Backstage we see Bobby Roode talking to Kona Reeves, who faces Hideo Itami up next!

Backstage, William Regal is with Bobby Roode to discuss his next opponent for the NXT Championship will be, for Takeover: Chicago. Roode says that he knows a lot of the rise of NXT has been because of him, and with Hideo Itami being reckless they need to make sure the champ is protected. What Regal makes of this is, Hideo needs to earn an opportunity to face Roode for the title…so next week, Itami will face Roderick Strong, and whoever wins will earn a shot at the NXT Championship at Takeover against Bobby Roode! There’s a knock at the door, prompting Regal to tell Roode of his next appointment…Roderick Strong, who has a brief staredown with the champ before Roode leaves.

Recap: We go back to last week, when Hideo Itami returned to NXT to interrupt NXT Champion Bobby Roode, things coming to a head when Itami laid Roode out with a GTS.

Backstage, Roode is asked about what happened. He says it was a cowardly and unprovoked attack by Itami. Itami hasn’t been around in a long time so he may not know this is a new NXT. Roode’s NXT. If Itami thinks he’s going to challenge him for the championship, he’s going to have to earn that glorious opportunity.

“GLORIOUS, I WON’T GIVE IN, I WON’T GIVE IN TILL I’M VICTORIOUS, AND I WILL DEFEND, I WILL DEFEND”

Bobby Roode opens the show

The crowd sings along to the music as Bobby Roode makes his way down to the ring.

In Ring Segment- Bobby Roode

Roode gets a microphone, and asserts that for the second year in a row, he made Wrestlemania weekend simply GLORIOUS. Roode says for the second year in a row he made WrestleMania week simply glorious. He single-handedly sold out the Amway Center. 15 thousand people were there because of him. He gave those 15 thousand people a treat. They got to witness him snuff out the last little flickering star that was in NXT. He gave the fans the treat of a lifetime, and during that night he snuffed out the last flickering star of the old NXT. He proved once again that the fate and the future of this brand is in his control. The transformation of Bobby Roode’s NXT and his Glorious Era was finally complete.

That is, until last week when he had to sit at home and watch Shinsuke Nakamura walk into MY ring. Every NXT Superstar walked down and gave him applause, and you all sang his song and clapped…the crowd starts singing Nakamura’s theme to affirm this, as he points out we didn’t see him, the champ, standing there. Why wasn’t he there? Because he wasn’t gonna stand there and listen to the crap coming out of Shinsuke’s mouth. He didn’t leave NXT…at Takeover, I defeated him for the second consecutive time and retain my NXT Championship, and beat him so bad he had no choice but to leave! It made him sick to listen to the crowd cheer for Shinsuke when Roode is the champ. None of you people deserve to be in my NXT, none of the people in the back belong in my NXT. From here on out, you can either jump on board and be a part of Bobby Roode’s NXT, or you can hit the bricks just like Shinsuke Nakamura did!

Hideo Itami’s music hits as he makes his way down tot he ring. The crowd chants his name as Itami stares Roode down. Roode taunts him, stepping forward…and takes a slap to the face by Itami as a result! The crowd chants “ONE MORE TIME” as Bobby is angry, setting his title and jacket down and rolling up his sleeves. Bobby yells at Itami, and ends up walking right into a GTS! Itami stands tall over the champion as we get a replay of what just happened. Itami picks up the NXT Championship, looking at it before dropping it, leaving the ring and walking up the ramp.

Back from break, officials are checking on Bobby Roode in the ring as we get another replay of the slap from Hideo Itami followed by the GTS. Roode stumbles around the ring as the crowd chants “Bobby are you okay?” Roode is finally getting back to his feet, looking more than a little annoyed and confused.

We take a look at the NXT Title match between Bobby Roode and Shinsuke Nakamura.

Nakamura says fate brought them together and fate will determine the future of NXT.

We see Nakamura being helped up by the referee and the ovation for Nakamura after the match.

We see higlights of Nakamura’s time in NXT.

We go to comments from Bobby Roode after his win on Saturday. Bobby says he told everyone exactly what he said he would do. He said he was going to walk into Takeover and beat Nakamura. That is exactly what he did. Tonight was the biggest Takeover in history. For the last year, he has taken NXT to new levels. He has taken it to greater heights and he has done things with this brand that have never been done before. It will continue and this is on the beginning. He wants to know if you are ready for the Glorious Ride in Bobby Roode’s NXT.

We go to commercial.

We are back with a video package for the Bobby Roode versus Shinsuke Nakamura match. We see Roode watching the match in which he won the NXT Title. Bobby toasts himself. He says fate works in mysterious ways. Before he arrived, NXT was an underground promotion, but things have changed since he debuted. Roode says he will shape the new NXT into his Glorious Image. The fans don’t have to buy in. It is not ‘We’ are NXT.

Nakamura says he will rise again at Takeover. NXT does not belong to Bobby Roode. NXT belongs to the fans. There is nothing glorious about Bobby Roode. Bobby Roode just cares about Bobby Roode. Fate brought Bobby and him together. Fate will determine the future of NXT.
